There are only a few references to Gwenhwyfar which seem independent of the stories of Guinevere of Arthurian Romance.

She appears in the Mabinogion attached tale of 'Culhwch and Olwen' and, in the Welsh Triads, is called the daughter of Ogrfan Gawr (the Giant). 16th century stories locate his residences at Old Oswestry and Castell y Cnwclas (Knucklas Castle).

In the 15th century, Sir Thomas Malory used this name for her father in the form of 'Leodegrance' of Cameliard (possibly Maelienydd in Eastern Wales). This appears to derive from the Welsh, Lleudd-Ogrfan, meaning 'Grey-Haired Ogrfan'.

Although, Geoffrey of Monmouth does not give him a name, he claimed that Guinevere's father was a  Roman nobleman and that she was raised in the house of Cador, Earl of Cornwall. 

One of the most beautiful maidens in Britain, Guinevere is usually depicted as meeting Ki
